Youth Participation in Ogun West Politics

Youth Participation in Ogun West Politics

Politics around the world is said to be local. Every politician that aspires to reach the nadir of the game of politics knows the importance of their immediate environment. This underscores the importance of grassroot in the art of politics.

In politics, the involvement and participation of Youths cannot be overemphasized. They play vital roles in nation development.

In this article, we shall be examining the roles of youths in Nigeria politics and we shall be focusing on Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State. The choice of Yewa South LGA is informed by the fact that the ratio of youth involvement in politics in that LGA is so pronounced to the extent that it attracted our attention even though we are not based in the state. We have every reasons to believe that in the near future, we shall witness another set of Akinlades, Mobolorunduros KLM, Otegbeyes, Anisulowos etc who are also all from Yewa South LGA.

I. Hon. Com. RAJI RASAK (a.k.a Governor) from Owode Yewa, ward 8, owode 2, as being in the electoral table. Yewa South Local Government

Youth development and community development,  for the youth development,  my primary intentions into politics to get the best out of youth more so, in searching for talents among youth create enabling environment for the youth.

Where I will  make a  synergy with private entity to promote our football to sponsor, to make our stadium meaning sport, athletes, empowerment for non carrier youth, community development meeting with CDC and CDAs to know what ask from govt. All these can't be achieved by me alone, I will create office for Directors to work with me to achieve it.

I attended Local Authority (LA) primary school Owode Yewa, OKE-OLA, Area community high school Owode Yewa, (ACHSO) and later proceeded to Federal Polytechnics Ede, Osun State, where I bagged National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Banking and Finance respectively.

My coming into politics it's not for pecuniary gain rather than to show what I can do for my people as my quota to the development of this country.

I have been in politics as far back 90s because my father is a retired soldier,I always have interest in government activities. I started politics in Ibadan,  Ojoo in Akinyele Local Government in 1998, after I wrote my West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) at Area Community High School Owode Yewa in Ogun West senatorial district in Ogun State, to stay with my senior sister.

Then,  I had opportunity to been with Alliance for Democracy AD and PDP, during that time as neonates politician under the tutelage of my father as one of his political student in that region.

We have a place we gathered in the evening to enjoy ourselves after work, we always issues concerning our academics and our future. Hmmm, there is one old baba that always watching us, bcos when it comes to Nigeria govt issue, there responsibilities to citizens, I talked at length based on fact that I'm commercial student, I also read paper and all what my father had told us about govt.

One day this baba called four of us saying I want you to be in politics, and started taking us to political meeting.we do this for some years,And before this I have noticed that where ever I am people normally choose me to lead, may be bcos of my name and Nick name. After, i gained admission to higher institution same thing continues.

Reason I joined politics is just I have passion for my community and my people, as a person who knows what i expect from govt and all these things are not adequately as supposed to be. I took it up that one day i want to be representing my people in govt. bcos it is when you are in govt you have power to fight for your constituency.

It's not easy, bcos you meet different people with different idealogy, you spend your personal resources, and some other challenges but for me I keep enduring bcos I know where I'm going.

YOUTH has a lot to do, because without youth participation in any thing in the community, that task will be slow to achieve, we are agile, spirit of comrade in us, and others. Yes, as youth should come out in em mass to participate in politics, we should decline the idea of without money nothing can't be done, even some are not a member of any political party.

In late 50s, it was youth that took the batton to rule our country, like Pa. Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Nnamdi Azikwe, of their blessed memory, even in military regime, they were all YOUTH ruling the country. At this junction I implore our teaming YOUTHs to come out actively to  participate in politics.

It have been a collective responsibity to get things achievable  in Yewa south as one of bonafide youth, As a member and executive of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN),Port folio: Financial Secretary ( presently) Ifekowajo Progressive Youth Council IPYC, Owode Yewa Youth Forum OYYF. I have participated in community sanitations, trimming of trees on the bridge of Yewa river at Ajilete, to mention but few as part of my dedication and contributions to the society.

There are political parties in Nigeria but we understood that some have took the dominant role position and keep others unrelevelant , I choose AA as a party is a party for the masses, is a party who had been following the way we have been governing in Nigeria, neglect of masses, AA come at this time when masses has no hope in Nigeria, to give us what we have been yearning for years. If go to AA constitution, you would be confused that good live for masses is mentioned through out. At this i salute the courage of my amiable state chairman, Hon. Com. Sanyaolu Abayomi to bring this party into Ogun state and my leading leaders of AA, person of Hon. Prince Dapo Adeyemi (The Mayor) OMO'LUABI. and other leaders and members of the party.

ACTION ALLIANCE AA is the solution 2023.

We need more youths to participate in politics, but the challenges is cumbersome with the lack of financial backup most youth find this as a distortion to further their aspiration let not been down cast with our financial status as Rome wasn't built in a day we need to encourage the youth to participate in politics as this is the only way to have change for developing this Nation, If we are leave the governance for the oldest when it's going to be our turn we can start by now as we're all a leader you have what others don't have. Having said that, I really appreciate the effort of my Guber candidate DR. SAMUEL OLUWAFEMI ADEYEMI for his support and uplifting of AA in Ogun state.

We have prominent youth in our constituency with good motive to propel our constituency and they  are doing fine in all respect field, but we need to be on same page in order to achieve the same goal. However, I believe in collective efforts and God sent leader who will harness our motive to quick the position at the helms affairs to develop the human capital in my constituency. If I'm giving opportunity to serve my consistency, I will gear up internal revenue generate more fund from Yewa river in Ajilete river through private entity.
